Prepare the Cake Batter
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, beat together the ricotta cheese, sugar, and softened butter until smooth.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Prepare the Chocolate Mixture
- In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder with boiling water until smooth.
- Divide the cake batter in half. Stir the chocolate mixture into one half of the batter.
Assemble and Bake
- Spoon the vanilla and chocolate batters alternately into the prepared cake pan.
- Use a knife to swirl the batters together for a marbled effect.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
