Ingredients
  

  • 1 large russet potato about 1 pound, scrubbed, unpeeled, ends trimmed
  • 1.5 to 2 cups water plus more, for soaking
  • 28 ounces vegetable oil or canola oil, plus more, for frying
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cups paprika
  • 1.5 teaspoons cayenne pepper optional
  • 1.5 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

Method
 

  1. Soak the potato in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Remove the potato from the water and dry thoroughly.
  5. Cut the potato into curly fries using a spiralizer.
  6. Dredge the curly fries in the flour mixture until well coated.
  7. Fry the curly fries in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes per batch.
  8. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve hot.
