Carnitas Crockpot

Ingredients
  

Pork
  • 3 pounds pork shoulder trimmed and cut into large chunks
Spices
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
Liquids
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 0.5 cup lime juice
  • 1 onion yellow onion sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced

Method
 

Prepare the Pork
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder pieces.
Cook in Crockpot
  1. Place the seasoned pork in the crockpot.
  2. Add the orange juice, lime juice, sliced onion, and minced garlic to the crockpot.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Shred and Serve
  1. Once cooked, remove the pork from the crockpot and shred it using two forks.
  2. Return the shredded pork to the crockpot and mix it with the juices.
  3. Serve in tacos, burritos, or as desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can broil the shredded pork for a few minutes after cooking to get crispy edges.
