A delicious Italian stuffed pizza, calzones are filled with cheese, meats, and vegetables, then baked to perfection.

Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup Warm water Around 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
Filling
  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese Shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese Grated
  • 1 cup Cooked Italian sausage Crumbled
  • 1/2 cup Bell pepper Chopped
  • 1/2 cup Mushrooms Sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg Egg Beaten, for egg wash
Sauce
  • 1 cup Marinara sauce For serving

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
  1. In a bowl, combine ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan, sausage, bell pepper, mushrooms, and Italian seasoning.
Assemble the Calzones
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into circles.
  3. Place filling on one half of each circle, fold over, and seal the edges with a fork.
  4. Brush the tops with beaten egg and place on a baking sheet.
Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side.
