Ingredients
  

Meat
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
Vegetables
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 medium bell pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium carrot diced
  • 1 medium potato diced
Spices and Seasonings
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
Others
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for cooking
  • 1/4 cup raisins optional
  • 1/4 cup green olives sliced, optional

Method
 

Cooking the Picadillo
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic; sauté until softened.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  4. Stir in diced carrot and potato, cooking for about 5 minutes.
  5. Add cumin, oregano, salt, and black pepper; mix well.
  6. Pour in tomato sauce and beef broth; bring to a simmer.
  7. Reduce heat and let simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. If using, stir in raisins and olives before serving.
